Have you ever gone shopping for fragrance and you get there just to be at loss of what to choose?

All you want is to smell nice but you begin to see different labels like parfum, eau de parfum, eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de fraiche.

Sometimes some are labeled as perfumes, sometimes parfum, another is tagged body mist, yet another is tagged body spray or even body splash.

At this point, you are totally lost and you wonder which is which.

Well, wonder no more! I am here to sort it all out for you.

Basically, fragrances are composed of aromatic oils and scents suspended in alcohol and water.

What sets the different types apart is the concentration of oil in alcohol and water and the concentration level of each of the components.

The concentration of the oil in alcohol and water determines how long the fragrance will last on you and of course the price.

The higher the concentration, the higher the price and the duration of the fragrance on you.

So, what is the concentration of each of these fragrance  parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne, eau de fraiche.
.
Eau fraiche is the least concentrated. It lasts for less than an hour.

Eau de cologne is parfum oil in alcohol and water. It lasts up to 2 hours.

Eau de toilette is next. It is pure parfum essence in alcohol. It lasts up to 3 hours.

Eau de parfum. Pure parfum essence which lasts up to 8 hours.

Parfum. Is the most concentrated. It contains about 20%-30% pure perfume essence and lasts up to 24 hours. Deodorants in this class are the most expensive of fragrances.
